The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), B S Bhullar, today banned the use of Samsung Galaxy Note7 mobile on planes and will not be allowed to keep the devices in their check-in baggage. The action follows a global recall of the device by Samsung following complaints that its batteries can catch fire.
The decision to ban use or carriage of Samsung Galaxy Note7 onboard has been considered for the safety of aircraft operations and its occupants.
‘We are aware of the DGCA notice. Consumer safety and peace of mind are our main concern and priority. Galaxy Note7 sales have not started in India, and we have delayed sales to lighten any safety concerns’, Samsung India spokesman said in a statement.
The company also intends to accelerate new shipments of Galaxy Note7 quickly to reduce any inconvenience for its customers, it added.
