Supreme Court Rejected the Review Plea of Nirbhaya Rapists

July 9, 2018

On 9 July, the Supreme Court has rejected the plea of three rapists of Nirbhaya Case, who were given the death sentence in Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case 2012.

The judgment was given by the bench consisting of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and Justices R Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan delivered the judgment on the pleas of Mukesh (29), Pawan Gupta (22) and Vinay Sharma (23).

Bench of Judges said that these three convicts were heard elaborately during the stage of their appeal against the Delhi High Court’s judgement. Thus, there is no point of making out by them for review of the apex court’s verdict upholding the death penalty.

It was also noticed that the fourth convict, Akshay Kumar Singh has not filed a review petition against the apex court’s May 5, 2017 judgment. This means that Delhi High Court will uphold the decision by confirming the death sentence for the convicts.
