Smallcap Index Falls Over 1% – Today’s Market Update

During the morning trade session on Thursday, the smallcap index was underperforming benchmark Sensex, falling over 1 per cent.

At around 12:10 pm it was observed that the BSE Smallcap index was 1.13 per cent down at 15790, while the BSE Sensex was 0.34 per cent down at 35,096. On the other hand, the NSE Nifty50 was 0.47 per cent down at 10,621. Shares of Gammon Infrastructure Projects, Leel Electricals, Fedders Electric and Engineering, TPL Plastech and Kitex Garments were among the top losers in the smallcap index.

On the other hand, New Delhi Television, Steel Exchange India, GPT Infraprojects, CG Power and Industrial Solutions and Shree Rama Newsprint were among the top gainers. Equity markets were under pressure amid weak global cues.

Market sentiment gets hit by macro indicators like rising crude oil prices and weakening rupee. Furthermore, investors were on the sidelines on the last of June series of future and option contracts.

Out of 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 16 were trading in the green, while 34 were in the red. 9 stocks were advancing, while 22 were declining in the Sensex index.
