Indonesia Earthquake Killed At Least 91 People
On Monday, Indonesia evacuated hundreds of tourists from popular resorts. Country has sent the rescuers to all over the holiday island of Lombok after a powerful quake killed at least 91 people and reduced thousands of buildings to wreckage.
The earthquake was of shallow 6.9-magnitude. It has caused the terror among tourists and locals alike. This was for the second time, when another earthquake came after just a week of deadly tremor surged through Lombok and killed 17 people.
Today, the Rescuers searched for survivors in the rubble of houses, mosques and schools that were destroyed in the latest disaster on Sunday evening.
One of the spokesperson from the National Disaster Agency has stated that there are so many challenges that their team is facing while rescuing the survivors. All the roads were damaged, three bridges were also damaged, and some locations are difficult to reach. They don’t have enough personnel.
In the morning, an operation was also under way to abandon some 1,200 tourists from the Gili Islands, three tiny, coral-fringed tropical islands a few kilometres off the northwest coast of Lombok that are particularly popular with backpackers and divers.
