Hardik Patel Sentenced To Two Years Of Jail
Patidar leader Hardik Patel and his two aides Lalji Patel and AK Patel have been sentenced to two years of jail and fined with Rs 50,000 each in a 2015 riots case. He has been found guilty for destruction at a BJP MLA’s office in Visnagar by a Gujarat court.
In 2015, a mob of 3000 to 5000 people caused destruction at BJP MLA Rushikesh Patel’s office during the Patidar reservation protest.
A total of 17 people including Hardik Patel were arrested and charged for arson, rioting and criminal conspiracy. He was released on bail later.
The protests demanding reservation for Patidar’s in educational institutions and government jobs had turned violent leaving 14 people dead in police firing.
Earlier this month ,the activist had announced that he would go on indefinite fast from August 25 to make sure that the Patidar’s get reservations.
