Assam NRC Final Draft Released Today
The final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) was released today. The final draft contains names of 28,983,677 citizens and 40 lakh people have been left out. The first draft in this process was released on December 31,2017 in which the names of around 1.9 crore people were included out of the total applicants of 3.29 crore.
The state government has increased the security and requested the citizens to not believe in any rumors. Both the chief minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal and Union home minister Rajnath Singh have assured that those who do not find their names in the list would get adequate time to rectify it and file their objections.
The National Register of Citizens (NRC) contains names of the Indian citizens living in Assam. The NRC was prepared in 1951 after the census of 1951.The NRC updation in the 2014-2016 across Assam include names of those persons or their descendants who appeared in the NRC 1951 or on any of the electoral rolls up to the midnight of 24 March 1971 or in any one of the admissible documents issued up to the midnight of 24 March 1971 which would prove their presence in Assam on or before 24 March 1971.
