All about Gluten-Free Food – Why There is Need of Taking Gluten Free Food?

A gluten-free diet is the only option for a person with Celiac disease. Many people who do not have Celiac disease are now opting for gluten-free diet as it believed to be healthier. In people with celiac disease, consuming the smallest quantity of gluten can pose serious health problems as they cannot digest gluten at all.

Gluten is an ingredient found in wheat, barley and rye. It helps foods such as bread and pasta hold their shape.

Foods that are not gluten free;

For taking up a gluten-free diet there is a list of foods which needs to be avoided. Foods that are to be avoided are

  • Pasta


  • Bread

  • Cookies

  • Pastries

  • French fries

  • Processed foods

  • Soups

Other non-food items including gluten                        

There are some non-food items that include gluten. These items may include lipsticks, lip balms, some medicines and supplements.

Many foods are naturally gluten-free and can be incorporated in the diet. These include fruits, vegetables, fresh eggs, fresh meats, most dairy products, seeds and nuts and unprocessed beans.

People who do not have celiac disease should also take up gluten-free diet as gluten is harmful in many ways-

  • It makes the gut more permeable.
  • Increases vulnerability to non-Celiac autoimmune diseases.
  • Causes Gastrointestinal Issues
  • It can cause brain symptoms like fatigue and brain fog.
  • It can cause skin related issues like itchiness and red rashes.
